'Gravely disabled' Spears involuntarily committed to psychiatric ward...

Britney Spears has been classified as "gravely disabled," a precondition for the pop star to be involuntarily committed to a hospital psychiatric ward, reports say.

Sources at UCLA Medical told gossip website TMZ.com that Ms. Spears - who was taken from her home by ambulance early yesterday and escorted to the hospital by more than a dozen police officers in cars, on motorcycles and in helicopters - had "fallen into a 'manic state' due to her bipolar disorder," the website reports.

Grave disability is defined legally as a condition in which a person, as a result of a mental disorder, is unable to provide for his or her basic personal needs for food, clothing or shelter.

Meanwhile, a source close to Ms. Spears told Usmagazine.com her trip to the hospital was "a carefully orchestrated intervention."

Ms. Spears, the source continued, "had been up since Saturday without any sleep. But that was a good situation for her to be in because she would be too exhausted to protest going in."

A Los Angeles police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the 26-year-old pop star was being taken to the hospital to "get help."

According to several reports, Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived at Ms. Spears's mansion about 11 p.m. Wednesday night, and were reportedly told to refer to her as "the package."

Around midnight, an ambulance arrived to transport Ms. Spears, who was strapped to a gurney, to hospital, reports said.

About four hours later, an LAPD source confirmed to TMZ, Ms. Spears was ordered to remain in hospital for a "three-day psychiatric hold" under supervision. The website reports that stay will likely be extended to 14 days.

Ms. Spears's mother, Lynne Spears, was seen leaving the psychiatric hospital about 5:30 a.m. When asked by a throng of paparazzi and reporters whether Ms Spears was doing all right, she replied, "Yeah," before leaving in a Range Rover.

You know I am sorry to say but this worry's me quite a bit as I think that she will be the next Marilyn Monroe or something of that nature as from what I can tell she is on the down and out and I honestly do not think that the psychiatrists are going to help her one bit... She has been taking Psychiatric drugs now and I think that this is directly affecting her "erratic" behavior.

So we shall see ... But don't say that I did not say anything about this as I really think that something not pleasant will happen due to all of this....

What About you?.....
